Sūn Sīmiǎo's Bèi Jí Qiān Jīn Yào Fāng (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand in Gold for Every Emergency) Volume 5: Pediatrics, Part 1. "Venerating the Root" fills a great gap in Chines medical (and perhaps even biomedical) education: it presents a comprehensive overview of neonatal and pediatric classical physiology, neonatal care including cord care, grooming and breastfeeding, and diseases that are common in children. This book is a literal translation of the first half of Volume 5 from the Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang 備急千金要方 on pediatrics, composed by Sun Simiao 孫思邈 in the seventh century. The second half is published as "Venerating the Root, Part Two."
